Sandwich Wars

Sir Keir Starmer has defended the sandwich after Kemi Badenoch dismissed it as "not real food." The Labour leader's spokesperson shared that Sir Keir enjoys a tuna sandwich and occasionally a cheese toastie for lunch, in contrast to Badenoch's preference for steak.

Support for the Sandwich

Number 10 also joined in supporting the sandwich, calling it a "great British institution" that contributes £8 billion to the economy. Director of The British Sandwich & Food To Go Association, Jim Winship, highlighted the convenience and balanced nutrition of sandwiches, dating back to their creation in 1762 by the Earl of Sandwich.

Controversial Views

Kemi Badenoch stirred the pot by stating that "lunch is for wimps" and expressing her disdain for sandwiches, preferring steak delivered to her desk. She even went as far as to say that sandwiches are not "real food" and are more suited for breakfast, adding that she avoids moist bread.

In Defense of the Sandwich

Former PM Rishi Sunak, known for his love of sandwiches, has previously praised them as his go-to meal during the 2024 election campaign. Despite differing opinions, the humble sandwich continues to be a lunchtime favorite for many.
