Labour Leader criticizes FA and Nike

Keir Starmer criticized the FA and Nike for changing the St George's flag on England footie shirts and for the high prices of the kits. In an interview with Sun Editor Harry Cole on the new politics show Never Mind the Ballots, Starmer expressed his disapproval of the alterations.

Nike's decision to change the flag

Nike decided to replace the traditional red and white cross on the collar of the England shirts with navy, blue, and purple stripes. The US manufacturer stated that the change was a "playful update" aimed at uniting and inspiring fans for the Euro 2024 tournament, but it received criticism from Starmer and others.

Pricing concerns

Starmer also raised concerns about the high prices of the England kits, with adult shirts retailing at £124.99 and children's shirts at £119.99. He called for a reduction in prices and questioned the need for the changes made by Nike.

Response to the changes

The altered design of the England shirts led to some labeling them as "woke," prompting calls for the manufacturer to revert to the traditional colors. The original red cross was changed to navy, light blue, and purple, resembling the 1966 World Cup winners' training kit.
