Fast-tracking Cancer Checks

Pharmacists in England are now able to refer patients with potential cancer symptoms directly for hospital tests, speeding up the process of early detection when survival chances are highest. This initiative aims to catch tumors early and improve outcomes for patients.

Pilot Scheme Underway

Twelve pharmacies in parts of East England and the South West have already launched this service, with plans to trial it in hundreds more high street pharmacies later this year. If successful, the scheme will be rolled out nationally to benefit more people.

NHS Transformation

NHS chief Amanda Pritchard believes that these plans have the potential to revolutionize cancer diagnosis and treatment, ultimately saving lives. Michelle Mitchell from Cancer Research UK also highlights the importance of early diagnosis in improving treatment outcomes.

Expanded Pharmacy Services

Alongside the cancer checks initiative, pharmacies in England are now empowered to treat seven new conditions without requiring a GP appointment. This move aims to free up millions of GP appointments each year, providing more accessible care for patients.
