Away from the world of politics, Rishi Sunak is a husband and a father. But who are his children and what has he said about them? Here’s everything you need to know.
Who are Rishi Sunak's children?
Rishi Sunak and wife Akshata Murthy share two children together. The couple, who tied the knot in 2009, are the parents of daughters Krishna and Anoushka. The two daughters are kept away from the public eye, but they do occasionally make an appearance alongside their parents. In August 2023, the Prime Minister was pictured alongside his wife and children as they soaked up the sun at the Santa Monica Pier during a holiday to California.
What has Rishi Sunak said about his children?
As Rishi doesn’t share many insights into his children’s lives, he has only made a few brief comments about the family. According to the his UK Parliament About Me page, Rishi previously joked that his children keep him "busy and entertained". In November 2022, Rishi revealed that he was afraid to let his daughter go out alone.
The PM said that was why he moved his family out of their Downing Street flat when he was Chancellor. Speaking at the time, following a vow to drive crime from the streets he said: "I come to it as a parent. My eldest is at the age where she’s starting to walk to places by herself or is wanting to. That’s why we were not in that flat in that last term when I was Chancellor. It was because she was going to start walking to her primary school. She turned 11 and then she was allowed to walk to school by herself — which she didn’t end up doing for lots of other reasons. But it brings it home to you as a parent. I want to make sure my kids and everyone else can walk around safely. That’s what any parent wants for their children."
During the summer of that same year, Rishi spoke of his daughters once more. Posting a snap of the family on Instagram during the summer 2022 leadership bid, he wrote: "Family means everything to me. So grateful to have the support of my family at yesterday's event in Grantham."
Where does Rishi Sunak live?
Mr Sunak’s most famous residence is of course, Number 10 Downing Street - which has been the Office of British PMs since 1735. Aside from this residence, Rishi's impressive property portfolio includes homes in other parts of the UK and the United States.
The family spend most of their time in London due to Rishi's governmental work - where they have a five-bedroom townhouse in the capital. They also have a mansion located in Richmond, North Yorkshire. In addition to this, the PM also owns a flat on Old Brompton Road, Kensington, which is reportedly used for visiting friends and family. Rishi and his wife also have a family home in California, where they first met as Harvard students in their early 20s.
