Renaming Greenland
Donald Trump has faced calls to rename Greenland as "Red, White and Blueland" amid efforts to seize the icy island in what is deemed a national security priority. Republican congressman Buddy Carter introduced legislation urging negotiations to acquire Greenland, proposing the patriotic new name for the territory.
Carter emphasized, "America is back and will soon be bigger than ever with the addition of Red, White, and Blueland." The proposed Red, White, and Blueland Act of 2025 would mandate a swift update of federal paperwork with the new name within six months.
Trump's interest in Greenland as a strategic asset, rich in natural resources, has sparked tensions with Denmark, the current owner. Despite Danish resistance to selling the island, Trump has not ruled out using military force to secure it, citing the island's importance in Arctic trade routes.
Unveiling Controversial Plans
Trump's push to rename Greenland is not the only international land grab idea he has entertained. In a similar move, the President declared "Gulf of America Day" on February 9, renaming the Gulf of Mexico through an Executive Order. The proclamation was signed while flying over the waters en route to the Super Bowl, with Google Maps subsequently reflecting the change to "Gulf of Mexico (Gulf of America)."

Secretary of State Marco Rubio defended Trump's actions, highlighting the strategic importance of Greenland and the need for the US to have more control over the region. The ongoing tussle over Greenland underscores the growing competition among global superpowers for dominance in the Arctic.
