Kemi Badenoch backs Rishi Sunak

The Trade Secretary, Kemi Badenoch, has dismissed concerns about Prime Minister Boris Johnson's leadership being at risk from Tory mutineers, even in the face of potential losses in today's local elections. Badenoch firmly stated that Chancellor Rishi Sunak is safe, despite rumblings of discontent among some party members.

Plotters creating 'lot of noise'

With the Conservatives facing the possibility of losing over 500 council seats, as well as mayoral positions in the West Midlands and Tees Valley, and a by-election in Blackpool South, there have been murmurings of discontent within the party. However, Badenoch emphasized that the Prime Minister has the full support of the Cabinet and her personal backing.

Sir Keir Starmer taunts PM

Amidst the political maneuvering, Labour leader Sir Keir Starmer seized the opportunity to taunt the PM, especially after a Tory MP defected to the Labour party. Starmer insinuated that Tory MPs are disillusioned with their party and hinted at a potential shift in support from voters.

Rishi Sunak aims for 'greatest comeback'

Despite the challenging electoral landscape, Chancellor Rishi Sunak remains optimistic, rallying party members at the London headquarters by portraying the situation as an opportunity for "the greatest comeback in political history." Political analyst Sir John Curtice noted that Sunak is attempting to inject hope into the party ranks, while Starmer seeks affirmation of Labour's current standing.
