Suella Braverman Opts Out of Tory Leadership Race, Citing Party's Resistance to Truth

Suella Braverman's Decision

Suella Braverman has declared that she will not be vying for the leadership of the Conservative party. The former Home Secretary expressed that the party has labeled her as "mad, bad, and dangerous" and sees no purpose in pursuing the leadership position.

Reasons Behind the Decision

In an article for The Telegraph, Braverman highlighted that her viewpoints on the reasons for the Tories' loss in the July election, particularly on migration, taxes, and "transgender ideology," were not aligned with those of most MPs.

Quote from Braverman

Braverman stated, "The traumatised party does not want to hear these things said out loud. I cannot run because I cannot say what people want to hear."

Response to Withdrawal

Despite having the support of 10 MPs to enter the race, Braverman decided against it. She acknowledged the landslide victory for Labour in July as a consequence of the Tories' significant missteps.

Impact on Conservative Leadership Race

Braverman's exit from the race may bolster the chances of Robert Jenrick, a former immigration minister, as her candidacy could have divided the more Right-wing vote. Notably, one of her backers, Sir John Hayes, is now expected to support Jenrick.

Other Contenders

Notable figures in the Conservative leadership race include Priti Patel, Mel Stride, James Cleverly, and Tom Tugendhat.

Previous Electoral Success

Braverman secured victory in the July election for Fareham and Waterloo with a majority of over 6,000 votes.
