Sir Keir Starmer Orders Public Inquiry

Sir Keir Starmer will address the nation after ordering a public inquiry into the Southport attack. The Prime Minister admitted the state "failed to protect" the three young girls killed by Axel Rudakubana last summer.

Horror of the Southport Attack

Six-year-old Bebe King and seven-year-old Elsie Dot Stancombe died at the scene at the Hart Space on Hart Street during the attack, while nine-year-old Alice da Silva Aguiar died in the hospital the day after the incident. Axel Rudakubana has pleaded guilty to all charges against him.

Sir Keir's Response

In a statement, Sir Keir admitted the "state failed" in its "ultimate duty" to keep children safe. He promised to leave no stone unturned in finding answers and expressed grief for the families affected by the tragedy.

Missed Opportunities and Warning Signs

Rudakubana had been referred to the Prevent scheme on three occasions due to his interest in violence, but was not accepted onto the program. Concerns were raised about his behavior during his school years, including incidents where he brought a blade to class and made threats.
