Sir Keir Starmer rejects calls for Brits to give up kebabs to hit Net Zero targets

Sir Keir Starmer's stance

Sir Keir Starmer has pushed back against suggestions that Brits should sacrifice two kebabs a week in order to achieve Net Zero targets. The PM disagreed with climate experts who recommended swapping meat for beans and grains, emphasizing that he will not dictate how people should choose their diets. Starmer highlighted the importance of transitioning to clean power and meeting Net Zero goals while respecting individuals' choices.

Climate Change Committee's report

The Climate Change Committee's recent report proposed reducing meat and dairy consumption as part of a strategy to reach Net Zero. The report suggested that giving up two meat-based meals per week, like kebabs or cooked breakfasts, could help the UK stay within safe climate limits by 2040. In addition to dietary changes, the report also included controversial measures such as replacing gas boilers with heat pumps and increasing flight taxes. Despite these recommendations, the report indicated that air travel could still see a ten per cent growth while meeting emission targets.
