Labour leader angers tourists in Madeira
Sir Keir Starmer caused a stir on the Portuguese island of Madeira when he bypassed a three-hour queue for a toboggan ride, much to the annoyance of fellow holidaymakers. The 62-year-old politician's limousine was ushered to the front of the line, where his teenage children were immediately seated for the popular attraction.
Boos and calls to 'get to the back of the queue'
As Starmer's family was swiftly placed on the ride, onlookers, including British tourists who had been patiently waiting, expressed their displeasure. Some even booed and shouted for the Labour leader to join the back of the line, highlighting the frustration felt by those who had queued for hours.
Queue disruption and mixed reactions
The queue for the toboggan ride had grown due to the arrival of several cruise ships in the port, leading to a lengthy wait for many visitors. Witness Russell Schacter, 64, from Ilford, Essex, captured the moment on video and described how Starmer's presence caused a stir among those who had been queuing diligently. Despite understanding the need for security and privilege, Schacter noted that seeing Starmer skip the line was a bitter pill to swallow for many British tourists, known for their patience in queues.
