Sir Elton John's Foundation Honored at Parliamentary Reception

Call for Action on World AIDS Day

On the eve of World AIDS Day, Sir Elton John used the reception to call for increased efforts to eradicate the disease by 2030. He urged "whoever wins the next general election" to prioritize the fight against HIV and AIDS.

Meeting with Labour Leader

Sir Elton John also met with Labour Leader Sir Keir Starmer at the event. Starmer pledged to update the HIV Action Plan as soon as his party comes to power, showing his commitment to tackling the issue.

Extension of HIV Testing

Health Secretary Victoria Atkins recently announced that the UK will extend its opt-out HIV testing to 46 A&E departments across the country. Sir Elton John praised this development as "truly wonderful news," as it will help identify cases and ensure timely treatment.

Elton John's COVID-19 Relief Fund

In 2020, Sir Elton John pledged £815,000 ($1 million) to a coronavirus Emergency Relief Fund to support individuals living with HIV. The fund was launched to provide assistance to those affected during the global pandemic.
