The new PM is said to want to want more cops on the front line
And now, Mr Sunak is said to want more cops on the front line “preventing and solving” crime on Brits’ doorsteps, the Sunday Telegraph reports.
Ministers are looking at the approach taken by Greater Manchester Police Chief Constable Stephen Watson.
The chief earlier blasted “woke” policing, and claimed the public are “fed up of virtue-signalling police officers”.
His “back-to-basics” approach – which put more bobbies on the beat – took GMP out of special measures in just 18 months.
A Government source told the Telegraph: “We want to get officers on to the front line doing what they are supposed to do which is preventing and solving crime.
“The chief constable of Greater Manchester has done a great job on that.
“We want to see what Greater Manchester have done replicated across other forces.”
Earlier this year, Mr Sunak warned Brits that “police forces must be fully focused on fighting actual crime in people’s neighbourhoods, and not policing bad jokes on Twitter”.
It comes after Rishi hired an ITV News chief to be his top spin doctor.
Experienced journalist Amber de Botton, who has also worked for Sky News, will become the PM’s director of communications.
And it was revealed the cabinet was pushing plans for a tax on foreign millionaires who own posh homes in the UK while living overseas.
