As the pressures of high office and the Tory faithful loomed over him, Prime Minister Rishi Sunak took a much-needed break to enjoy a game of table football. Joined by his wife Akshata, Sunak visited the Burnley Boys and Girls Club on the opening day of the Conservative party conference in Manchester.
A celebration of goals and high fives
During the game, Sunak celebrated scoring goals with high fives, showcasing his enthusiasm and love for the sport. However, when his team conceded a goal, he took responsibility, stating "that's all me" during his visit to the club.
Confident about hosting the Euros
Sunak, a Southampton fan, expressed his confidence in the UK and Ireland bid to host the Euros in 2028. He revealed that he had been putting in personal effort, making calls, and talking to key people to ensure a successful bid. He reminisced about his favorite childhood experience of Euro96 when England last hosted the full tournament and expressed his desire for the UK to host the event.
A defining experience
Sunak emphasized the importance of hosting the Euros, describing it as a potentially "brilliant" moment for the country. As a huge football fan himself, he spoke about the significance of such events becoming special in our history. He also shared his personal connection to Euro96, mentioning that he still has a t-shirt from that time. Sunak's passion and effort in securing the bid for the UK were evident as he eagerly awaited the announcement.
