Rishi Sunak Blames Boris Johnson for High Migration Levels

Record Levels of Net Migration

Rishi Sunak has taken a swipe at Prime Minister Boris Johnson by declaring that he "inherited" the record levels of net migration. According to figures published by the Office for National Statistics (ONS), net migration reached a record high of 745,000 in 2022, surpassing expectations and prompting calls for curbs from the Tory party.

Determined to Bring Migration Levels Down

During a visit to Guildford, Surrey, Sunak stated that the levels of legal migration to the country are "simply too high." He emphasized his determination to bring them back down to sustainable levels, acknowledging that the current numbers put unsustainable pressure on public services.

Examining Independent Advice

The government is currently examining independent advice on how to address the issue of high migration levels. Sunak mentioned that measures would be brought forward to tackle the problem and reduce the strain on public services.
