Accusations and Findings
A damning report has uncovered "credible evidence" of unlawful harassment of two women by suspended Reform MP Rupert Lowe and male members of his team. An independent lawyer found "veracity in the complaints" lodged by the two females against Mr. Lowe.
Allegations and Suspension
Rupert Lowe was suspended after attacking Nigel Farage during an interview. The report suggests that Lowe may have breached the Equality Act in relation to harassment and discrimination. Jacqueline Perry KC stated that the claims of "victimisation, constant criticisms, and discriminatory behavior" amount to harassment by both Lowe and his team.
Response and Referral to Police
Mr. Lowe was suspended by the party and referred to the police over accusations of making threats of violence against the party’s chairman. There were also allegations of bullying in Lowe’s office, which were taken up by the lawyer conducting the probe.
Women's Complaints and Investigation
The women who made complaints also lodged them with the Independent Complaints and Grievance Scheme, a system in place for current and former Westminster employees. They gave sworn statements under penalty of perjury, while Mr. Lowe refused to follow this course of action.
Denial and Team Statement
Mr. Lowe denied the allegations, calling them a "political assassination." In a statement published by his team, they defended him, claiming the complaints were vexatious attempts to smear him and the team. They denied any bullying allegations and expressed their desire to focus on their work.
