Rachel Reeves denies claims of expenses probe during banking career

Defending her record

Labour's Rachel Reeves has refuted allegations of being investigated for expenses irregularities during her time in retail banking, stating that her expenses were submitted and approved in the correct manner.

No concerns raised

Reeves emphasized that no issues were ever raised regarding her expenses while she worked at Halifax Bank of Scotland between 2006 and 2009, and that she was never questioned or asked to repay any expenses.

Legal clarification

David Sorensen, a lawyer who represented Reeves during her departure from the bank, confirmed that she was not accused of any wrongdoing or misconduct during her tenure.

Lack of evidence

Despite initial suggestions that Reeves and her colleagues may have breached the bank's rules, it remains unclear if any further action was taken regarding the expenses claims made using "motivation cards."

HR manager's perspective

Jane Wayper, a former HR manager at the bank, stated that she would have been informed of any investigations or disciplinary processes related to expenses irregularities, but no such actions were taken during Reeves' time there.
