Priti Patel Slams Gender Ideology and Calls for Parental Rights in Schools

Former Home Secretary criticizes woke ideas and 'political correction' in education

Priti Patel has launched a scathing attack on gender ideology, calling for parents to have a say in what their children are taught in school. Speaking at a rally of the New Conservatives in Manchester, Patel expressed her horror at the promotion of woke ideas by taxpayer-funded bodies and blamed a culture of "political correction" for overtaking schools, councils, and government departments in Whitehall. She further attributed this "corrosive culture" to socialism.

Parents' concerns over gender issues and the erosion of rights

During her speech, Patel voiced her deep concern about the targeting of children regarding gender issues and the perceived infringement on parents' rights. She emphasized the need to denounce these ideas and ensure that parents can reject them. Patel stressed, "We do now need to go back to our institutions, back to our schools, and give, for example, parents the right to say 'no'. It’s as simple as that."

Patel's remarks reflect a broader demand for reclaiming control in local bodies and schools. She urged the Conservative party to take back some degree of control to ensure that parents' rights are heard and respected.
