Partygate buster Sue Gray ‘could have held secret talks with Labour a year before she took job’

PARTYGATE investigator Sue Gray may have been in talks with Labour for a year before she took a job with them, it was claimed last night.

The civil servant, who has joined Sir Keir Starmer’s party as his chief of staff, could have been holding “off the books” talks for some time.

She also allegedly sent an email making suggestions on how witnesses should be handled during the Parliamentary probe into Boris Johnson and whether he misled Parliament while in talks.

A source told the Mail on Sunday said: “One of Sue Gray’s managers has told Cabinet Office officials they believe the secret contacts with Labour began well before last November.

“They believe the contacts may have been going on for over 12 months.

“It all appears to have been done ‘off the books’ so the Cabinet Office is having to play detective to place all this together.”

“Labour said the claim was “categorically untrue.”

A spokeswoman added: “It’s well known a vacancy for Chief of Staff only arose in Autumn last year, at which point Keir considered what it was he needed in a replacement.”
