Reform UK Boss Richard Tice in Talks with Ex-Tory Ministers Over Defecting
Nigel Farage's closest ally, Richard Tice, has sparked speculation by claiming that Farage should be "President of Britain." Tice, the leader of Reform UK, is reportedly in talks with former Conservative ministers who are considering defecting to his right-wing party. This comes as Farage eyes a return to the political frontline following his stint on the reality show I'm A Celebrity.
Denial of Cash Incentives for Defection
Addressing rumors that Tory deputy chair Lee Anderson was offered cash incentives to defect, Tice denied the allegations. He stated that he has had discussions with Tory MPs, ministers, and former ministers who are deeply unhappy with what they perceive as a betrayal of the government's promises.
Tice's Ambitions and the Possibility of President Farage
When asked about the possibility of Farage returning from his I'm A Celebrity appearance and taking over his role, Tice expressed his ambition for the party. He said, "I've always said I want as much help as possible, but I'm a bit more ambitious. I quite like the idea of President Farage – maybe you can have President Farage and President Trump."
Farage's Stance on the Monarchy
In 2019, Nigel Farage declared himself a "big royalist" and voiced his support for the Queen's reign "for years." However, during a tour in Australia, he criticized the now King and Prince Harry, stirring controversy and debate.
Rishi Sunak's Warning to Dissatisfied Voters
Amid concerns among some Tory MPs about the electoral threat posed by Reform UK, Rishi Sunak used an interview in the Mail on Sunday to caution dissatisfied voters against abandoning the party. He emphasized that a vote for any party other than the Conservatives would ultimately benefit Labour leader Keir Starmer.
