Labour MP Joins Campaign to Keep Fuel Duty Down
Motorists have been hit with the news that they pay a higher rate of tax than multi-billion-pound companies. FairFuelUK's Howard Cox highlighted that duty makes up 60 per cent of pump prices, compared to businesses only paying 25 per cent tax on profits.
Support from Labour MP Graham Stringer
Graham Stringer, the first Labour MP to support the Keep It Down campaign, emphasized the negative impact of increasing fuel duty on the economy. Stringer stated that raising fuel prices would hinder productivity and increase the cost of doing business, going against Labour's manifesto promise not to raise taxes on working people.
Concerns Over Potential Increase in Fuel Duty
If the proposed 5p cut is axed and an inflationary increase is reinstated, motorists could face an additional £3.85 cost to fill up an average family car. With fuel duty already at 60 per cent, experts and MPs are urging against further hikes that could burden drivers.
