United Leadership in Support
Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer and French President Emmanuel Macron have agreed to discuss showing "united leadership in support of Ukraine" during their separate meetings with US President Donald Trump this week, Downing Street revealed after the two leaders spoke on Sunday.
Commitment to Ukraine
Both Starmer and Macron expressed concerns over Russia's "barbaric full-scale invasion" and emphasized the importance of placing Ukraine at the center of negotiations. Starmer reaffirmed the UK's commitment to supporting Ukraine and stressed the need for Europe and the UK to stand united against Russian aggression.
Strengthening Security
Discussions in the US this week are expected to focus on scaling up security measures to further support Ukraine. The leaders agreed to maintain close contact and continue working together to address the ongoing crisis.
Zelensky's Offer for Peace
Meanwhile, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has vowed to step down in exchange for peace or Nato membership amid peace talks led by Donald Trump that excluded Kyiv. Zelensky emphasized the importance of Ukraine's security and expressed willingness to make significant concessions for the sake of peace.
