Apology accepted
Sir Keir Starmer has accepted an apology from Cabinet Minister Jonathan Reynolds over misrepresenting his legal career. Reynolds, who was a trainee solicitor but left the profession when he entered politics, referred to himself as a solicitor in a Commons debate, a term protected by law.
Apology and explanation
Reynolds, who also inaccurately labeled himself as a solicitor on his LinkedIn page, has apologized to the Prime Minister for the "inadvertent errors." Number 10 confirmed that an apology was offered and accepted, with a focus on moving forward with the government's agenda.
No change in work
Downing Street clarified that there would be no alteration to Reynolds' responsibilities while the Solicitors Regulation Authority (SRA) looks into the matter. The SRA has not initiated a formal investigation at this time.
Human error
A Labour source attributed the misrepresentation on Reynolds' LinkedIn profile to "human error," stating that Reynolds did not personally manage the profile. The focus remains on working towards the government's goals and priorities.
