The Home Secretary has announced a new strategy to tackle organised crime in the UK, as it was revealed that there are currently 59,000 gangsters causing chaos and costing the nation billions of pounds annually.
Government Increases Funding to Disrupt Criminal Networks
James Cleverly, a Cabinet Minister, stated that smashing organised crime gangs is a "vital part of our mission." As part of this effort, the government plans to double funding to disrupt people smugglers and invest millions in policing.
New Policing Tactic to Be Rolled Out
The new strategy, known as "Clear, Hold, Build," will be implemented in every police force in England and Wales by next spring. This three-step approach involves initial enforcement to dismantle criminal networks, maintaining safety, and empowering communities to address the root causes of crime.
Banning Items Used by Criminal Gangs
The Criminal Justice Bill will grant authorities new powers to ban items used by criminal gangs, including 3D printed firearms components. This measure aims to further cripple organised crime networks.
Additional Funding to Combat Organised Immigration Crime
The government has pledged an additional £5 million to support UK police in their efforts to tackle organised immigration crime. This funding will be used to enhance the response of the National Police Chiefs' Council's Modern Slavery and Organised Immigration Crime Unit.
"Taking Down These Organised Crime Gangs is a Vital Part of Our Mission"
According to Mr Cleverly, serious and organised crime affects every corner of the country. He emphasized the importance of dismantling these criminal networks and highlighted the impact they have on society, including drug peddling, financial scams, and abuse of the vulnerable.
Mr Cleverly stated, "That is why we are doubling funding to disrupt the people smugglers and investing millions in UK policing to enhance their response to organised immigration crime."
59,000 People Involved in Serious and Organised Crime
The National Crime Agency estimates that there are at least 59,000 individuals involved in serious and organised crime in the UK. This criminal activity costs the country a minimum of £47 billion each year.
