Friends in the Civil Service of Sue Gray, the former senior boss, have come under fire for allegedly leaking confidential government policy plans. Sources say that sensitive discussions on anti-smoking and pro-driver measures were made public.
Suspicions of a Coordinated Effort
Senior government insiders are expressing their frustration, suggesting that the leaks were orchestrated by left-leaning individuals within the Civil Service who are sympathetic to Gray. One source described the current state of the Civil Service as "awful," accusing them of trying to please Gray by disclosing confidential information.
The timing of the leaks is also seen as suspicious, coinciding with Gray's move to join Labour leader Sir Keir Starmer's team.
Leaked Policies
Crucial policies discussed in closed-door meetings between Prime Minister Rishi Sunak and his closest ministers and aides have been exposed. Among these leaked policies are plans to effectively prevent individuals under the age of 18 from ever starting smoking. Additionally, the postponement of the Net Zero ban on new petrol and diesel car sales until 2035 and the decision to prohibit councils from implementing 20mph zones were also made public.
A Controversial Figure
Sue Gray had previously sparked controversy when she unexpectedly quit her prestigious Civil Service position earlier this year to join Sir Keir's team. Critics pointed out that her departure coincided with the release of the Partygate report, which played a role in the downfall of former Prime Minister Boris Johnson. Gray and Labour have consistently maintained that she followed all rules and was granted approval to work for the party by Parliament's appointments watchdog.
It is important to clarify that there is currently no evidence suggesting that Gray was involved in the leaks.
