Frontbench MPs Break Ranks to Demand Gaza Ceasefire, Defying Keir Starmer

Growing Mutiny

Sir Keir Starmer, the leader of the Labour Party, is facing a growing mutiny as more than a dozen frontbench MPs publicly call for a ceasefire in Gaza, defying party discipline. Shadow ministers, including Naz Shah, Afzal Khan, Sarah Owen, and Jess Phillips, are among those turning the screw on Sir Keir, with some senior figures in the Shadow Cabinet privately lobbying for him to back down. The rebellion comes after Muslim councillors quit Labour in protest and community members launch grassroots campaigns against top Labour MPs.

Labour MPs Fear Seat Losses

MPs are concerned that the revolt could cost them seats with large Muslim populations. They warn that they could lose councillors to George Galloway's party or Tower Hamlets Mayor Lutfur Rahman. In addition to the political implications, Labour MPs have also been subjected to abuse over their stance on the conflict in Gaza, with some senior figures receiving death threats. The party is now more divided than ever, and questions are being raised about whether any meaningful change has occurred within Labour.

SNP First Minister Concerned About Family in Gaza

Meanwhile, the First Minister for Scotland, Humza Yousaf, has expressed concern for his in-laws who are trapped in Gaza. He revealed that he has not heard from them since Friday morning, adding to the urgency of the calls for a ceasefire.
