Monty Panesar leaves Workers Party of Britain after brief stint

Former England cricket star Monty Panesar has withdrawn as a candidate for George Galloway’s political party just eight days after announcing he was standing. Panesar appeared with the Workers Party of Britain leader at Westminster in April, advocating for a wealth tax and restrictions on foreign ownership of sports teams.

Looking for alignment - Panesar seeks political home

Panesar was slated to run in the Labour-held Ealing Southall constituency in West London. However, in a post on X, he announced his withdrawal, stating the need for more time to listen, learn, and find a political home that aligns with his values. Despite stepping back from the Workers Party, Panesar expressed his intentions to prepare and deliver his best in future political endeavors.

Galloway in talks with potential defectors

Meanwhile, George Galloway revealed ongoing discussions with three Labour MPs and a peer regarding potential defections. Galloway shared that the talks had their ups and downs but expressed optimism about persuading them to join his party. Describing himself as an experienced fisherman, Galloway aims to secure these potential defectors in due time.
