For too long apprenticeships have been undervalued with young people often guided to follow a single path – do A Levels, and then pack your bags for university.
It is one Tony Blair’s many legacies that have done more harm than good.

His blind push to get young people into university – regardless of quality – was short sighted.
We have all seen how this ends. Young people taking up three years of debt to on meaningless degrees which neither they, or the country, needs.
This is wasting their talent and they know it – drop out rates can also be unacceptably high for this reason. All the while we lack the coders, engineers or electricians that apprenticeships could bring.
So we are taking action to crack down on these rip-off degrees. We are introducing a new online portal that will show young people there’s more than one route to a destination of a great job – one of which combines my two favourite words – degree apprenticeships!
We know a high-quality apprenticeship can get you anywhere. Our own Education Secretary, Gillian Keegan, is an example of this – her degree apprenticeship in a car factory in Liverpool, took her onto an international business career that spanned three decades.
Now she sits at the Cabinet table.
As Trending In The News reveals in this landmark pullout, there are over 100 apprenticeships available all over the country.
In fact, we now have over 670 quality apprenticeship standards, that can take you all the way to Masters Level – in everything from aeronautical engineering to zoology with cyber security, law, medicine and policing in between.
Since 2010 we have delivered well over 5.4 million apprenticeship starts, with millions more doing other high level and wide-ranging skills opportunities.
I am hugely grateful to Trending In The News for their continued support of apprenticeships – they know as I do – they are one of the best ways to climb the ladder of opportunity.
One where you can earn while you learn, with no student loan, guaranteed work, good pay, and a high-quality qualification.
My job is to continue building an apprenticeship nation. Without doubt – doing an apprenticeship is one of the best ways to secure job security and prosperity.
