Labour's Potential Deal with the EU
Euro judges could overrule British courts if Labour caves to Brussels’ demands, Kemi Badenoch warned yesterday. Top Keir Starmer ally Jonathan Reynolds refused to rule out allowing European Court of Justice oversight as part of Labour’s ‘reset’ with the European Union.
Labour Warned About Surrendering to EU Demands
The shadow business secretary said a Labour government would seek a "pragmatic, good-faith relationship" with the EU and negotiate a new deal on food standards — boosting agriculture exports by as much as a fifth. However, Ms. Badenoch warned about the potential consequences of giving in to EU demands.
Concerns Over Freedom of Movement and Business Impact
Former EU negotiator Michel Barnier suggested that Labour might have to accept the return of freedom of movement in exchange for any deal. Nigel Farage criticized Labour, predicting they would be more incompetent than the Conservatives and cave to EU "lunacy." Ms. Badenoch also expressed concerns about Labour's economic plans triggering higher taxes and being unrealistic.
Labour's Stance on EU Deal
Labour sources clarified that the party would not sign any EU deal that made Britain a "rule taker," emphasizing their position on maintaining sovereignty in negotiations.
