Donald Trump glares in Manhattan court as criminal hush money trial begins

Trump's Day in Court

Former President Donald Trump appeared in a Manhattan courtroom as jury selection for his criminal hush money trial kicked off. This marks the first time a former US president faces criminal charges.

The Allegations

The charges against Trump stem from a $130,000 payment made by his former lawyer, Michael Cohen, to adult star Stormy Daniels just before the 2016 presidential election. The payment was allegedly to keep Daniels quiet about her affair with Trump.

Trump's Defense

Trump, 77, vehemently denies any sexual encounter with Daniels. He labeled the trial as an "assault on America" and expressed confidence in his innocence, despite facing 34 counts of falsifying business records.

Legal Battles

The presiding judge warned Trump that he must be present throughout the trial, which could last up to eight weeks. Despite attempts to have the judge removed, Trump's requests were denied, and evidence from the National Enquirer against him will be allowed.

What's Allowed in Court

While certain evidence, like the Access Hollywood tapes and E. Jean Carrol's deposition, won't be presented to the jury, testimony from a former Playboy model alleging an affair with Trump will be allowed.
