Chancellor to pledge £10million to support veterans' mental health at Autumn Budget

HERO veterans will receive £10 million to assist them with their mental health, announced by Jeremy Hunt this week.

Tribute to the troops

The Chancellor will pay tribute to the troops who put their lives at risk to ensure our safety.

More cash for health and housing

In Wednesday's Autumn Statement, the Chancellor will promise additional funding to help veterans access healthcare and housing.

A Treasury source stated, "The heroes who risked their lives for our freedom deserve our support. We are aware of the prevalence of homelessness and mental health issues among veterans, so the Chancellor aims to allocate this funding where it can truly make a difference."

Higher risk of depression and suicide

Various studies have shown that veterans are at a higher risk of depression and suicide. When they leave the Armed Forces, many struggle to reintegrate into society.

In the past 20 years, over 10,000 troops have been discharged due to mental health issues.

Autumn Statement details

The highly-anticipated Autumn Statement will be delivered in the House of Commons on Wednesday, usually around midday.
