Chancellor Jeremy Hunt Claims Back Pennies in Parking Fees Despite Millionaire Status

Multi-Millionaire Chancellor Claims Small Parking Fees

Millionaire Chancellor Jeremy Hunt has come under fire for claiming back small parking fees, despite his wealthy status. Just three days after taking office in October 2022, Hunt asked the taxpayer to cover a charge of £1.10. A month later, he claimed £2.80, shortly after urging the public to make sacrifices to balance the nation's books.

Penny-Pinching Minister Faces Criticism

Hunt has a history of penny-pinching, having previously claimed for 70p and 60p in parking fees in 2020. His constituents in Godalming, Surrey, have accused him of being out of touch, as there is free parking available in the area. Project manager Jon McCorkell stated that there was no need for Hunt to make these claims.

Wealthy Chancellor Faces Backlash

Despite being worth £14 million and earning about £150,000 a year as Chancellor, Hunt's latest parking fee claims have drawn criticism. Labour Party members have mocked the Chancellor, suggesting that a 60p parking charge could make a difference in his property business. However, a Treasury source dismissed these criticisms as short-term politicking.
