Brits prefer Rishi Sunak over Tory rebels, but Penny Mordaunt gains popularity

Public opinion on Tory leadership revealed

According to a recent poll, 62% of Brits do not support Tory rebels trying to topple Rishi Sunak before a general election. Only 38% back the move, with a significant majority of Tory voters also opposing a leadership challenge.

Penny Morduant emerges as a potential leader

The survey, conducted by the More in Common think-tank, indicates that 70% of Tory voters believe Rishi Sunak should lead them into the next election. However, the poll suggests that the Tories might fare better with Penny Mordaunt as leader, potentially closing the gap with Labour.

Challenges for Rishi Sunak

Despite the preference for Sunak over potential rebels, his personal approval ratings remain low, with a net approval score of minus 16. In comparison, Sir Keir Starmer holds a plus 4 rating. The survey also suggests that Penny Mordaunt could be the key to improving Tory fortunes if a leadership change occurs.

With over 2,000 participants surveyed, the poll sheds light on the current state of Tory leadership and public sentiment.
