British Bangers back on the menu in China

British Bangers are back on the menu in China as Covid-era restrictions on pork exports have finally been lifted. The deal is worth a massive £80 million to British farmers and traders, ministers said.

China, the world's biggest pork consumer

China is the world’s biggest pork consumer, where pigs ears, tails, and even the trotters are considered tasty delicacies. Beijing had stopped importing pork during Covid and has only gradually lifted restrictions.

Ministers hail the deal

Food Minister Daniel Zeichner said, "This is a massive win for British pork producers. Our pork is world-famous for its quality, and now we can give Chinese customers what they're hungry for." Trade Minister Douglas Alexander added, "Economic growth is at the heart of everything this government does, and opening export opportunities is vital in achieving that."

Trade boost and economic impact

Britain sold £180 million worth of pork to China last year. This trade boost could see another £80 million of the tasty meat heading to the Communist country every year.
