Xbox's Game Pass Could Expand to PlayStation and Nintendo, Teases Xbox Exec

Xbox's Niche Found with Xbox Series X|S

Xbox has been searching for its niche in the gaming market, and it seems to have found it with the Xbox Series X|S. By offering two different console styles, Xbox allows gamers to choose the one that best fits their budget and preferences.

Game Pass Expansion to PlayStation and Nintendo

Xbox is considering bringing its popular Game Pass subscription service to PlayStation and Nintendo consoles, according to Xbox's chief financial officer Tim Stuart. Speaking at the Wells Fargo TMT Summit, Stuart stated that Xbox's mission is to bring their first-party experiences and subscription services to every screen that can play games, including smart TVs, mobile devices, and even competitors like PlayStation and Nintendo.

A Change of Strategy for Xbox

This announcement marks a major shift in Xbox's strategy, as the company has previously made its first-party games exclusive to PC and Xbox consoles. For example, Bethesda's highly anticipated game Starfield was originally planned for release on PlayStation, but became exclusive to Xbox consoles after Microsoft acquired the studio. Xbox's move to expand Game Pass to other platforms could have significant implications for the gaming industry.

PS Plus and Xbox Game Pass

PlayStation revamped its PS Plus service in June 2022 to align more closely with Xbox Game Pass. While Game Pass has achieved great success with players, it remains to be seen if PS Plus can replicate that level of success. The expansion of Game Pass to PlayStation and Nintendo consoles would undoubtedly shake up the gaming landscape and provide even more options for gamers.
