Why the Worst-rated Game of 2024 is the Best-selling

Despite Disappointing Reviews, Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League Dominates the Charts

Last year was hailed as the best year ever for gaming, but 2024 is already off to a roaring start. Surprisingly, it's not the highly acclaimed 90+ rated games that have taken the top spots on the charts this week, but rather a game that was panned by critics.

In recent weeks, we've seen the release of several incredible games that have captivated players. Yet, none of them managed to claim the number one spot on the charts.

For instance, Like A Dragon: Infinite Wealth received an impressive 93 rating on Metacritic and debuted as the second best-selling game in its first week, only to drop to 28th place this week. Similarly, Tekken 8 fared exceptionally well with a 92 rating, securing the third spot on the charts.

However, it's the game that received one of the lowest ratings of the year from both players and critics that has defied all odds and climbed to the top.

Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League garnered a paltry 63 with critics and a disappointing 39 with fans, making it one of the most poorly received games of the year so far. Yet, it has emerged as the best-selling game of the week. The likely reasons behind its success? Pre-orders and the enduring popularity of DC Comics characters.

The rest of the top ten best-selling games includes a mix of popular titles from last year and those that have consistently boasted impressive sales over the years:

  • Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League
  • Persona 3 Reload
  • Tekken 8
  • Super Mario Bros. Wonder
  • Mario Kart 8 Deluxe
  • EA Sports FC 24
  • Hogwarts Legacy
  • Mortal Kombat 1
  • Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3
  • Grand Theft Auto 5

If you're a gaming enthusiast, don't miss out on the free games with PS Plus Essential this month, which includes a day-one release.
