The Game Awards 2023: Baldur's Gate 3 takes home the top honors

Nintendo, Xbox, and PlayStation all shine at gaming's equivalent of the Oscars

The annual Console wars have come to a close, and the winners have been crowned at The Game Awards 2023. While debates over which gaming console is the best have raged on, it seems that all three major players – Nintendo, Xbox, and PlayStation – have emerged victorious.

Nintendo steals the show with three awards

Nintendo had an impressive night, taking home three awards at The Game Awards. Pikmin 4 won Best Strategy Game, Super Mario Bros. Wonder was voted Best Family Game, and Tears of the Kingdom was awarded Best Action/Adventure Game.

Xbox celebrates big wins for its first-party games

Xbox also had a strong showing, securing three wins for its first-party games. Forza Motorsport won Best Sports Game and Innovation in Accessibility, while Hi-Fi Rush surprised everyone by winning Best Audio Design.

PlayStation's exclusives make their mark

While PlayStation didn't win any awards for its first-party titles, three PlayStation console exclusives stood out. Resident Evil 8 won Best VR game, Tchia won Games for Impact, and Final Fantasy 16 won Best Score. Final Fantasy Rebirth was recognized as the Most Anticipated Game, and The Last of Us was crowned the Best Adaptation.

Alan Wake 2 and Baldur's Gate 3 steal the spotlight

However, two other games stole the show, with Alan Wake 2 winning Best Direction, Best Art Direction, and Best Narrative. The ultimate winner of the night was Baldur's Gate 3, which took home a staggering six awards, including Best Multiplayer, Best RPG, Best Community Support, Best Performance, Player's Voice, and the coveted Game of the Year title.
