EA Sports' Divorce from FIFA
Following EA Sports' public split from FIFA, the football federation vowed to continue making games under the FIFA name. However, while EA Sports successfully rebranded as EA Sports FC, a FIFA game has yet to be seen. FIFA has sold licenses for various NFT and crypto projects, but a fully-fledged football game has remained elusive.
FIFA Finds a New Partner
A reliable leaker with a history of accurate predictions has revealed that FIFA is now collaborating with 2K Games. Known for its sports games like NBA 2K24 and WWE 2K24, 2K Games has not produced a football game in recent years. Meanwhile, EA Sports has dominated the genre, although Konami's eFootball has seen relative success.
The Future of FIFA Games
EA Sports announced its commitment to continue making football games after ending its partnership with FIFA, maintaining its regular yearly release schedule. While FIFA expressed its intention to release games, no official announcements have been made, and FIFA appeared to have skipped the 24 release. FIFA president Gianni Infantino promised news about the forthcoming FIFA game, but almost a year has passed with no updates.
2K Games' Financial Capability
Reportedly, FIFA requested $1 billion (£800 million) from EA Sports for the use of its name. 2K Games is one of the few companies that can afford this hefty price tag while also specializing in sports games. This partnership could potentially mark the long-awaited return of a FIFA football game.
