Call of Duty Players on Xbox and PC Get a Boost as PlayStation Misses Out

Exclusive Items and Improved Graphics

Call of Duty is a massively popular game played on multiple platforms, including Xbox, PlayStation, and PC. While all platforms offer a similar gaming experience, there are some differences. Some versions have exclusive items, while others boast improved graphics or playability.

Xbox's Acquisition of Activision Blizzard

Xbox has recently acquired Call of Duty maker Activision Blizzard for a staggering $69 billion (£55 billion), giving it ownership of the IP. As part of this acquisition, Xbox has promised that all Activision Blizzard games will have parity across all consoles. This means that every version of Call of Duty will be exactly the same, regardless of the console you own.

The PlayStation Exclusive Oni Skin

However, before the acquisition, Activision Blizzard made a deal with PlayStation. As part of this deal, players who own Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 on PlayStation were offered the exclusive Oni skin. According to the agreement, this skin was supposed to be exclusive to PlayStation owners for a year after the game's release on October 28, 2022.

An Early Release on Xbox and PC

However, players on both Xbox and PC have claimed that they can also use the PlayStation-exclusive Oni skin since October 17, almost two weeks before the supposed exclusive period ends. It is unclear whether this early release was intentional or a mistake, as there has been no public statement addressing the issue. Some speculate that Xbox chose to push out the update early following the acquisition, but this remains unconfirmed.
