FIFA introduces nonfungible tokens (NFT) collection ahead of the 2023 Club World Cup

Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA) has announced the launch of its own NFT collection for the upcoming 2023 Club World Cup in Saudi Arabia. The international soccer governing body is collaborating with blockchain firm Modex to create a collection of 100 NFTs, with the chance to win tickets to the FIFA World Cup 2026 final. An additional 900 digital collectibles, featuring memorable moments from the tournament and digital versions of memorabilia, will be released on the Polygon network (MATIC) and OpenSea this month.

FIFA Club World Cup brings together top football teams

The FIFA Club World Cup, set to start in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia on December 12, will feature seven of the world's greatest football teams, including the champions of FIFA's six confederations. The NFTs will be available for purchase on FIFA's platform, FIFA+ Collect, which was launched in September 2022 and is powered by Algorand.

Digital collectibles enhance fan experience

FIFA aims to provide fans with new ways to engage with their favorite players, teams, and the game they love through digital collectibles. Francesco Abbate, CEO of Modex, expressed his support for FIFA's goal, stating that digital collectibles have the potential to deepen fan interactions.

FIFA+ Collect platform gains popularity

The FIFA+ Collect platform has already facilitated 11 NFT drops, resulting in over 900,000 digital collectibles minted and 16,448 holders. The platform has seen a trading volume of $2.4 million across primary and secondary NFT markets. However, FIFA+ Collect Info cautions that the mint volume may be misleading, as it cannot differentiate between packs obtained for free and those purchased with USD Coin.
