Cardano Founder Responds with Strong Words
Charles Hoskinson, the founder of Cardano (ADA), has hit back at criticism of his blockchain's roadmap in an amusing exchange on social media. Responding to a fan's comment comparing Cardano to Ethereum (ETH), Hoskinson dismissed the criticism, stating, "it's getting delusion town now," and "we are living rent-free in the maxi minds. I pity them." He went on to criticize Ethereum's consensus layer, calling it a "dumpster fire," and pointing out the challenges posed by its programming model and layer 2 ecosystem.
Cardano's Sidechain Plans Highlighted
Hoskinson also highlighted Cardano's sidechain plans, which, according to him, will benefit both Cardano and the sidechain. In March 2020, the Cardano Foundation published a research paper introducing Hydra, a layer-two solution that uses sidechains to offload transactions from the main network. Hoskinson emphasized that this approach would make Cardano "the fastest system in the world," citing simulations that showed the potential for one million transactions per second.
Hydra Project Still Under Development
In an ask-me-anything session in November 2021, Hoskinson revealed that the Hydra project was still under development and had no set launch date. However, progress has been made, with the release of the first mainnet-compatible Hydra node on May 11, 2023. Developers have also teased the upcoming Hydra Pay, which will integrate with Cardano Wallets and offer instant settlement and high transaction processing capabilities.
Comparison with Ethereum's Transaction Volume
When it comes to transaction volume, Cardano currently processes an average of 65,000 transactions per day, or 0.75 transactions per second, according to data from Cardano Scan. In comparison, Ethereum processed over 1 million transactions in the past 24 hours, averaging about 12.45 transactions per second. Despite this difference, Hoskinson remains confident in Cardano's future, stating, "No matter how many times the VC coins, the cryptomedia, or the maxi crowd proclaims we are dead, irrelevant, or failing, we always remind them that Cardano is here to stay."
