MOROCCO has reopened its borders today and Brits are finally able to visit the popular tourist destination after a 16-week ban.
Brits were first banned back in October when the Moroccan government stopped all direct flights from the UK, Germany and the Netherlands.
Now, the border has been reopened, and UK travellers are being welcomed back into Morocco.
The chief executive of the Moroccan National Tourist Office (MNTO), Adel El Fakir, said to The Independent: “The whole sector today is very excited to welcome back people from around the world, especially the UK. Welcome is in our DNA.”
Brits must be fully vaccinated to enter Morocco and must show proof that they had their second dose more than 14 days before travelling.
Children under the age of 18 are exempt from needing a vaccine pass, in a move that will be welcomed by families ahead of the half term holidays.
All arrivals must download, print and sign a passenger health form before arriving in Morocco, and Brits must also show evidence of a negative PCR test result taken within 48 hours of boarding.
Children under the age of six are exempt from the pre-travel PCR test requirement.
All passengers must then take a rapid antigen test upon arrival, and randomly selected groups of passengers may have to take PCR tests.
Wearing face masks in public spaces is mandatory. According to the Foreign Office, failing to respect the rules can lead to a prison sentence of up to three months, or a fine of up to MAD 1,300 (£103).
Additionally, Morocco is still enforcing strict rules on opening times and capacity limits in public and private venues.
Restaurants, coffee shops, shops and supermarkets must close at 11pm.
Public and private gatherings are limited to 50 people and public swimming pools and sports facilities can only operate at 50 per cent capacity.
Morocco is the latest country to ease Covid restrictions ahead of the half term holidays.
Greece has eased its travel restrictions for Brits just in time for the school break.
Brits heading to Spain on holiday from next week have been given a welcome boost as the country is scrapping mandatory face masks outdoors.
