Retired Williams is accused of strangling his wife to death over Covid fears and money worries

Retired Williams, who had money worries, told police: “I just snapped.”

He said concerns over Covid were “probably” preying on his mind.

Williams told: “We woke in the morning, I had been tossing and turning all night, two nights I could not sleep.

“My wife said ‘get over it’ or ‘come on – get over it’. I just snapped.

“I just had my hands on her throat and I was just throttling her to death.

“Then I was going to commit suicide but I couldn’t.

Williams, of Brynglas, Cwmbran, denies murder.

He has admitted manslaughter by reason of diminished responsibility.

The trial continues at Swansea crown court.
