JEREMIH Smith has opened up on the devastating covid-19 virus, admitting his month in the hospital was “messed up”.
The singer was diagnosed in late 2020 and friends shared the news on social media, with the R&B singer reportedly placed on a breathing ventilator in the ICU.
Speaking on Tuesday, Jeremih revealed: “What I can say is: man, it definitely is real. I didn’t take it for granted. And truth be told … I’m a living, walking testimony.
“I was really down bad for the last month and a half while I was in there. You know, I don’t even remember the day I went in. That’s how messed up it was.”
Appearing on Sway In The Morning, he continued: “I had the tube down my throat for about a week and a half.
“I was really, like, in a dream. And I ain’t gonna lie, I woke up about two times and all I remember is just seeing a white light.”
During his battle with the deadly virus, he said his organs became “inflamed” and his “heart stopped beating.”
During recovery, he then had to “learn how to walk again, eat, all that stuff.”
“I look at it as kind of somewhat of a blessing now, as crazy as it might sound,” Jeremih said. “I needed to sit down.”
However, he said: “Mind you, I didn’t know what was going on at the time. I was out.”
Rappers 50 Cent and Chance the Rapper both took to social media asking for prayers for Jeremih’s recovery.
Chance the Rapper tweeted: “Please if you can take a second to pray for my friend Jeremih, he is like a brother to me and he’s ill right now. I believe in the healing power of Jesus so if you can for me please please say a prayer over him.”
50 Cent wrote: “pray for my boy Jeremih he’s not doing good this covid s**t is real.”
On December 9 the 33-year-old shared his first pictures from his hospital bed, captioning the post: “I’m still here.”
Jeremih shared a selfie from his hospital bed with a plaster on his cheek, as well as a photo of him at the barbers.
Over the weekend, Jeremih thanked the doctors and nurses who cared for him, saying he will be “forever grateful”.
“First and foremost, I would like to thank God and the incredible team of doctors and nurses at Northwestern Memorial Hospital for saving my life. I will be forever grateful,” the singer said in a statement.
“I would also like to thank my family and friends for all their prayers and well wishes. I’m overwhelmed with gratitude.”
“A special thanks to Chance The Rapper, 50 Cent and Diddy for their love and support,” he added.
