IT was announced today (December 17) that millions of Brits will be plunged into tier 3 one week before Christmas.
But how many households can meet on the big day? Here is everything you’ll need to know…
How many households can meet over Christmas?
In England, Scotland and Northern Ireland three households are allowed to form one Christmas bubble from December 23 to 27.
Across the UK people will be able to meet in their bubble but it has to be in a private home, a place of worship or a public outdoor space.
In Wales only two households will be able to gather indoors this year.
Meanwhile, in Scotland, the Government has urged that people only meet their bubble on one of the five days.
In a joint statement, the Cabinet Office announced the leaders of England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland had “endorsed a shared objective of facilitating some limited additional household bubbling for a small number of days”.
While you can form a Christmas bubble with up to three households these bubbles are not permitted inside pubs or other hospitality venues.
Access to pubs, restaurants and cafes are dependent on the tier system operating in your area.
How many households can meet in Tier 2
Indoor
Households are not allowed meet indoors.
You may only sit inside a pub with your own household – not your Christmas bubble.
Outdoor
Households can mix outdoors if sticking to rule of six.
You may sit outside a pub in mixed households as long as you stick to the Rule of Six.
How many households can meet in Tier 3?
Indoor
Households are not allowed to mix indoors.
Pubs and restaurants so it is not possible to meet with another household.
There are no overnight stays allowed outside your area unless necessary.
Outdoor
Households cannot mix in most outdoor places.
