CHANGES will be made to GCSE and A-level exams next year to “maximise fairness” in light of disruption caused by the Covid-19 pandemic.

What are the changes being made to GCSEs in 2022?
One of the changes for pupils in England next year is the introduction of a choice of topics.
This will apply in some GCSE exams, such as English literature and history.
For subjects where a choice of topics are not provided, advance information on the focus of exam content will be given in early February. This is to help students with their revision.
Support materials in exams, such as formulae and equation sheets in maths and physics, will also be given.
Top grades will also lower by roughly four points after they were deliberately inflated because of the disruption of the pandemic.
GCSE results day will go back to its normal date of August 25.
What are the changes being made to A-Levels in 2022?
A-level top grades will likely reduce by around ten percentage points.
Ministers said they will start tackling grade inflation by placing marking boundaries halfway between where they were pre pandemic, and this summer’s record-breaking haul.
Nearly half (45 per cent) of all A level grades doled out this summer were As or A*.
Education Secretary Nadhim Zahawi said: “We’ve put fairness at the heart of our approach and listened to pupils, teachers and parents.
“The measures we’re putting in place will help reduce the impact of the significant disruption this group of young people have had to face – allowing them to move onto the next stage of their lives.
“We are committed to rigorous standards being fairly applied, and exams are the fairest way to assess students, which is why they will take place next year.” Tory MP and education select committee chairman Robert Halfon said: “This seems a good idea, pegging grades to 2019 half way.
A-level results day will go back to August 18.
