Covid test centre rocked by explosion in ‘targeted attack’ in Holland as region sees virus cases soar
The Covid test centre is Bovenkarspel was sealed off by police

One security guard was on duty at the regional health board testing centre in Bovenkarspel, in Noord Holland.

Broadcaster NOS said a metal pipe exploded outside the building, but this has not been confirmed.

Streets were sealed off while explosives experts checked to make sure the location was safe.

It comes as the region has been hit by sharply rising positive coronavirus test results for several days.

Nearby Hoorn is now fourth in the list of Netherlands towns with the highest infections per head of population.

It is not the first attack on a test centre in the country.

In Decemebr, vandals set fire to the test centre in Urk.

And windows were smashed at test centres in Amsterdam and Urmond.
