AROUND six pubs have vanished for good each week since the start of the first lockdown.

Some 384 boozers have been demolished or converted to different use in the past 14 months, data compiled by property adviser Altus Group reveals.

There were 40,502 boozers in Britain when doors opened again on Monday — down from 40,886.

But the hospitality sector has shown resilience in the wake of months of closures, curfews and servings restrictions over the past year.

The rate of pub losses slowed from the previous year amid financial support including furlough and grants, Altus said.

The group’s Robert Hayton added: “Pubs have endured a torrid time during the pandemic but have proved remarkably resilient aided by government interventions.”
