Are takeaways open in lockdown 3 and can I still order via Uber Eats, Just East and Deliveroo?

TAKEAWAYS from your favourite restaurants are still open for orders during the third national lockdown – as long as they keep trading.

While the latest restrictions force restaurants, cafes and pubs to shut, they are still allowed to offer delivery and takeaway in England.

Deliveroo is still offering delivery services, although a number of restaurants have now closed completely
Deliveroo will still offer delivery service during the second national lockdown in England

Pubs aren’t allowed to sell takeaway pints like they did in previous lockdowns, but you can order for delivery.

Just keep in mind the new rules apply to England only – Scotland and Wales have separate coronavirus restrictions in place.

Today First Minister Nicola Sturgeon announced that people living in Scotland will only be allowed to pick up takeaway food and drink if they’re collecting it through a serving hatch or doorstep.

Meanwhile, going inside a restaurant or cafe to collect a takeaway will be banned.

If you’re keen to order a takeaway in England, you’ll need to check with your local restaurant to see if it’s still open.

During the first lockdown, many big brands, such as McDonald’s, KFC, Nando’s and Pizza Express, closed their operations entirely.

It was different in November with chains operating Covid-securely, and they continued offering takeaway and deliveries for customers.

The situation has so far largely remained the same during this lockdown in England.

For the restaurants that are open for business, Deliveroo, Just Eat and Uber Eats are still running.

Once again takeaway companies are keen to keep delivery drivers safe, and so are asking customers to ensure a contactless handover.

Or if you are self-isolating then a delivery driver can leave food outside your home and you can pay by card over the phone or online beforehand.

The Prime Minister announced a third national lockdown on January 4, 2021 to help stop the spread of coronavirus.

The tighter restrictions come as the spread of the new strain of COVID-19 has led to “rapidly escalating case numbers across the country”, according to a No10 spokesperson.

On the same day as Boris Johnson’s announcement, the Covid threat level moved into its highest level for the first time ever.
