Unexpected Decline

Steve Tostdevine, described as the "fittest 77-year-old you could meet," tragically passed away just weeks after doctors dismissed a fatal leg cancer as a mere 'strain'. His widow, June, is left devastated by the loss and wishes the cancer had been caught earlier.

Rapid Deterioration

Steve, a grandfather from Tyneside, Durham, began feeling unwell in May 2023, with lumps appearing on his body and a persistent ache in his leg. Despite seeking medical help, his condition worsened rapidly, eventually leading to his untimely death.

Missed Opportunities

June recalls how Steve's health declined quickly, with doctors initially attributing the lump to a muscle strain. By the time cancer was suspected, it was too late for Steve, who was diagnosed with liposarcoma, a rare form of cancer that develops from fat cells.

Raising Awareness

June, determined to raise awareness about sarcoma, a type of cancer she had never heard of before, is participating in the Great North Run to fundraise for Sarcoma UK. The charity emphasizes the importance of early diagnosis and supports research to combat this devastating disease.
