A 57-year-old grandmother, Natalie Yates-Bolton, is celebrating an incredible achievement - beating cancer not once, not twice, but five times. Natalie, a nursing lecturer, first overcame Hodgkin's lymphoma when she was just 22 years old. Undeterred, she continued her studies and obtained a PhD before the disease returned at the age of 37. Subsequently, Natalie battled breast cancer three times.
A remarkable journey of resilience and determination
Throughout her cancer journey, Natalie has shown immense strength and resilience. She has undergone 11 surgeries, endured 30 chemotherapy sessions, and received 55 rounds of radiotherapy. Despite these challenges, she never gave up on her passion for fitness.
Running towards victory
Natalie's love for running became her solace during her cancer treatments. She completed six marathons, three ultramarathons, and three triathlons. Her determination and commitment to fitness have been truly inspiring.
A groundbreaking drug and the power of hope
During her battle with breast cancer, Natalie was prescribed a drug called palbociclib. She took the medication for six years, and now, doctors at Manchester's Christie NHS Foundation have informed her that she is cancer-free. Natalie's remarkable recovery and the effectiveness of this drug offer hope to others facing similar challenges.
An exceptional and inspirational individual
Oncologist Dr Sacha Howell has described Natalie as "exceptional and inspirational." Her strength, courage, and refusal to let cancer define her have made her an inspiration to others.
Rebuilding and embracing life
Natalie, who is married to Gary and has two daughters and two grandchildren, wants others to know that it is possible to rebuild your life after cancer. She said, "I'm proof you can rebuild your life." Her story serves as a reminder that with determination and a positive mindset, one can overcome even the most difficult challenges.
Today, Natalie celebrates not only her victory over cancer but also her unwavering spirit and dedication to fitness. Her story is a testament to the power of resilience and serves as an inspiration to all.
